Solstrand seminar: something borrowed, something . . .
This was a research seminar conducted for the Instittut for medievitenskap, University of Bergen, in December 2000.
These notes describe a large part of the applied research and pedagogy that I have undertaken over the last five or so years. This work utilises existing and 'off the shelf' technologies, generally reasonably cheap and with low IT demands, reappropriating them for use as research tools, teaching environments, and assessment practices. Generally, the successful integration of such processes into research, and teaching and learning, seems to be facilitated by its integration into all aspects of these activities, and in the recognition that such processes require us to redefine our assumptions about critical literacy, academic writing, and assessment measures.
After several years of applying technology to the teaching of cinema studies, and the indirect use of technology in media studies generally, several advantages, and disadvantages, in the use of technology in teaching become apparent.
