media studies

In the Media Studies undergraduate degree at RMIT students can choose as an elective a hypertext theory and practice subject. This subject combines a laboratory based introduction to the use of some hypertext technologies with a seminar that explores the sort of hypertext theory developed by people such as Jay David Bolter, George Landow, Stuart Moulthrop, and Michael Joyce. The hypertext 'systems' used are Storyspace, a standalone hypertext writing and reading program, and HyperText Markup Language (HTML) for publication of material on the World Wide Web. For reasons that I hope will become clear, I will concentrate on our use of Storyspace, and rely on student work for examples.
