Storyspace & The hyperText Project "Inside"
Storyspace
Text spaces within a Storyspace hypertext web (inside the
space called "Presentation")
This is a close up view of what is contained within the circled text space
on the Storyspace page. As you can see there is
another collection of Storyspace text spaces here, and some of these, in turn,
contain further spaces. The lines and arrows that you see are some of the
links
that this hypertext contains. (You can give links names, and this can be a
useful additional building tool. The links can also be 'hidden' if you don't
like the visual clutter - I do.)
It is important to remember that this is only one of the 'top' level spaces
open, and that it is possible not only to have multiple spaces, but multiple
windows open at any one time. These program windows are the standard Macintosh
windows that can be scrolled within, and resized to whatever is convenient to
the writer and reader.
Likewise the top part of each of these spaces is the text space, the lower
part is simply to contain more such spaces. The
text space does not need to contain text
(apart from its heading), and the lower part does not have to contain additional
spaces.
The text spaces are only available when the writer or reader chooses to open
one, though in some of the standalone publication versions it is possible to
always have a text space open.
A small pedagogical caveat... While
Storyspace is one of the major hypertext tools being used, it must be borne in
mind that the
Hypertext Project is an effort to
develop an understanding and awareness of new modes of writing and publication.
All work undertaken within the Project is orientated towards these issues,
rather than specific software products or proprietary solutions. This is why the
Project's long term aim is to test the possibilities of allowing students across
subjects to have multiple methods of presenting work, and for staff to have
multiple modes of assessing work.
