Singin' in the Rain: film extracts, technical things
To view the extracts used in this essay you need to have QuickTime installed on your computer, and the QuickTime plug-in for your web browser.
If you do not have the plug-in installed then the movie extracts will have to be downloaded to your machine and played using a helper application.
If you have the plug-in installed, and QuickTime, then the clips will play within the browser window. The clips are designed to need an 8Kb 'stream' (easily supported by most modems). This will provide 1 frame per second, and sound, but for this review it should be noted that these files currently reside on an Australian server and that download speeds (in the U.S.) will be significantly improved once they are placed on JHUP's server.
It is recommended that you use Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x or better.
QuickTime is available for Macintosh and Windows from the Apple QuickTime web site.
Alternative versions of these extracts will be provided prior to publication using better quality low bit rate codecs, all will rely on existing plug in technologies, and will be cross platform.
